Caving equipment

All cavers need the proper gear for safe cave exploration. At minimum, this includes:

  1. A helmet with chinstrap

  2. Three sources of light (at least two of which are headlamps)

  3. Extra batteries

  4. Gloves and kneepads

  5. Bottles of water

  6. Backpack, sling pack or fanny pack

Backpack or sling pack

Cavers should have some form of pack in which to keep their gear. Avoid packs with many zippers and Velcro closures; they become clogged with mud. Drawstrings and buckled flaps work much better in caves.
